President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has no intention of dissolving the coalition of parties that support his government in connection with differences over the Century Bank bailout issue, one of his spokesmen said.
"I said until yesterday when I met with the President I did not see the President has an intention or wish to dissolve the coalition," the presidential special staff for communications and media, Heru Lelono said to newsmen here on Wednesday.
He said the president had said that "the coalition is set up not only for the interest of the government but it is also for political education in democracy."
Heru said when contacted by phone what the President meant with political education was giving people knowledge that were were parties that support the government and those outside the government.
"It provides a balance. So what the President is thinking is that the best thing to do is improving the coalition in case there are things considered not harmonious. So the coalition is not supposed to only follow the government but also critizing its work and because they are on the same boat discussions could be done on it," he said.
He said in case questions emerged of why common coalition members differed that showed that something was indeed needed to be improved.
"So, building common perception on this is what the president thinks has to be improved. The President is not disappointed but what is good is improving the things that are considered not yet good and the stance still remains until yesterday," he said.
President Yudhoyono, he said, is right now waiting for the conclusion of the process of the settlement of the case at the DPR and because it was a political process the President could not interfere.
"This is a political process. So the President will only wait for its result. According to constitutional law the president will not interfere, so he will only be waiting. While waiting he continued working. But certainly, he is following the process in case something needed to be responded," he said.
He said forming the coalition was important but implementing the government program was more important for the interest of the people and so the President considered improving it was better than dissolving it.(ANTARA News)
