President to respond officially to parliament`s inquiry

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono will soon give an official response to the final views of political party factions` in parliament on the Bank Century case.

In remarks to open a plenary cabinet session at his office here Thursday, the President said as head of state he was the most responsible person for everything that happened in the country.

]"Before long, I will speak on the Century Bank crisis. I plan to address the Indonensian people directly. I, as head of state, am the most responsible person for whatever happens in this country in terms of development and other things," the President said.

He said he had decided not to directly respond to the party factions` final views conveyed in the House Bank Century inquiry committee on Tuesday, February 23, 2009, but through a formal speech to be delivered soon.

The president said he did not want to be reactive about issues developing every day around the Bank Century case because he did not want to be dragged into political controversies.

"I cannot react to these issues every day. If I do, I will be drawn into endless controversy," he said.

However, he had always followed and thought about any crucial issue that evolved in the public arena, he said.

While planning to make an official response to the party factions` final views on the Bank Century case himself, the President said, relevant members of the cabinet such as Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Djoko Suyanto and his senior aides were also free to comment on the issues on the government`s behalf.(ANTARA News)
