Yudhoyono Should Disclose Munir's Case

SBY PRESIDENCY. Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) was asked to keep his promise of unrevealing the death case of human rights activist, Munir.

“SBY said the case was the test of histories. Therefore, we’re asking him to keep his promise to solve the case until the mastermind is revealed,” Jakarta Legal Aid Institute activist, Mohammad Isnur said during the commemoration of the 61th International Human Rights Day at Bundaran HI, Jakarta on Thursday, December 10.

Isnur deplores the fact that until today, the mastermind behind the murder has not been found while Muchdi and other BIN (State Intelligence Body) members were acquitted.

“We’re not only demanding for Munir case, but also for other human rights violations such as the Priok case or missing person cases to be settled,” he said.

Munir died while on-board a flight to Amsterdam from Jakarta on September 7, 2004. Later, the investigators learnt that Munir died of poisoning.

The Supreme Court sentenced former Garuda Indonesia pilot, Pollycarpus Budihari Priyanto to 20 years imprisonment. The Judges, who consist of Bagir Manan, Parman Soeparman, Djoko Sarwoko, Paulus E Lotulung, and Harifin Tumpa, declared Polly was proven committing a first degree murder.

The Court also sent PT Garuda Indonesia Airbus A330 Pilot Chief Secretary, Rohainil Aini to one year imprisonment. Aini was guilty of making a forge letter for Polly’s flight to Singapore.

Meanwhile, Muchdi PR, who has been facing trials, was cleared of charges.

At the first-level trial, South Jakarta Public Court acquitted the Deputy Head of the Great Indonesia’s Movement Party (Gerindra). The judgment was later supported by the Supreme Court.• VIVAnews
