Indonesia and Japan will unveil the results of a study on the possible attainment by developed nations in 2010 of the Bogor Goals at the APEC Summit in Singapore on November 14-15, a spokesman said."As we all know APEC developed members have agreed to conduct free trade by 2010 and developing members by 2020," spokesman for the Indonesian Foreign Ministry Teuku Faizasyah said on Friday.
APEC members had time to assess their preparedness for the free trade before an APEC meeting was held in Japan in 2010, he said.
The Bogor Goals were declared at an APEC Summit held in Bogor, south of Jakarta, in 1994 and outlined ways to realize APEC`s vision of economic cooperation.
Under the Bogor Goals, APEC aims to create a free, transparent and fair trade and investment system in Asia and the Pacific by 2010 for developed economies and 2020 for developing economies, take the lead in strengthening a transparent multilateral trade system, increase trade and service liberalization, intensify economic cooperation among Asia Pacific countries and accelerate the liberalization process by reducing trade and investment barriers.
The 2009 APEC Summit will be themed "Sustaining Growth, Connecting the Region" to reflect sustainable processes within APEC to facilitate trade and investment in the Asia-Pacific region in particular and respond to challenges faced by the global economy in general.
At a series of APEC meetings this year, APEC economies have discussed the necessary steps to support inclusive and sustainable economic growth, address the global economic crisis, and speed up regional economic integration, among others.
Faizasyah said Indonesia could take advantage of the upcoming APEC Summit to make the new government`s programs and commitments known to other APEC members.(ANTARA News)
